French journalist Jean-Dominique Merchet has said that the reason why the European Union (EU) is against admitting Turkey as a member is because Turkey is a Muslim country.

"All European countries, particularly France, is against the EU membership of Turkey because country is Muslim," Merchet said.

"We cannot even discuss Turkey's membership to EU in France. One cannot express his support to Turkey's membership to EU. I am very sorry about it," he said.

Merchet said that he is aware of the three big threats that Turkey is facing; Daesh, the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ).

"Even though the international community doesn't describe the Gülenist Movement as a terrorist organization, this terror group is a great threat for Turkey," he said.

Merchet also touched upon the confusion of the United Nations on the description of armed groups in Syria and Iraq.

"There is no consensus between countries about describing armed groups in the war-torn countries, such as Syria and Iraq. They don't have a stable terrorism definition," he said.

Ankara denounces the PYD and YPG as affiliates of the PKK terrorist organization, which have been conducting terrorist attacks targeting Turkey for three decades and which is designated as a terrorist group by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.

However, Washington insists on indicating that YPG is their ally against Daesh, despite Turkey's warnings.

Merchet criticized European countries for not making contributions toward solving the refugee crisis, adding that Turkey and Lebanon are putting all their efforts.

More than 3 million Syrians have sought refuge in Turkey from the civil war, now in its sixth year.

Turkey is the world's biggest host of refugees, amid the greatest global movement of refugees ever recorded.

Millions left Syria and more than 600,000 people have been killed in the Syrian Civil War.

Turkey struck a deal with the EU in November to prevent migrants from traveling to Europe in return for 3 billion euro in cash, a deal on visas for Turkish citizens and renewed talks on joining the 28-nation bloc.

However, the EU broke its promise and declined to pay the money that is earmarked for the refugees being hosted in Turkey.

Tours: Napoleon's Tomb

Within Les Invalides is the final resting place of Napoleon Bonaparte.

The former emperor's body was returned to France from St Helena in 1840 and, after a state funeral, was laid to rest in St Jerome's Chapel while his tomb was completed in 1861.

There was no expense spared for the tomb and Napoleon Bonaparte's body lies within six separate coffins. They are made of iron, mahogany, two of lead, ebony, and the outer one is red porphyry.

The tomb sits on a green-granite pedestal surrounded by 12 pillars of victory.

French journalist Jean-Dominique Merchet: "All European countries, particularly France, is against the EU membership of Turkey because country is Muslim,”

Actually, Turkiye is a secular country (most likely much better secular than France) with mojority very moderate Moslem population.

The same France, treats a 19th Century French mass murderer Napoleon as a national hero.

The same France supports and trains PKK/YPG terrorists in Syria.

The same France, along with all other victors of WWI, supported , provoked and urged Armenian rebels/terrorists, by all means, rise against Ottoman rule during WWI to massacre Ottoman Moslem subjects (Turks, Arabs, Kurds, even Moslem Armenians, and others), now supports by all means the Armenian terrorists who murdered over one hundred innocent Turkish diplomats during 1970s and 1980s some of whom, chances are strong, are living in France with total immunity. Now it is against the French law to oppose fabricated Armenian genocide claims Armenians for the last one hundred years have prevented a legal and forensic review of the evidence. Where the hell is the freedom of thought and speech in French democracy??? Where the hell is the most fundamental principle of law, "innocent until proven guilty", in French democracy???
